Portrait of a Place

Portrait Of A Place from Clifton Lewis on Vimeo.

So my "Portrait of a Place" was my parent's backyard. The video shows the enormity of things in comparison to the dog.

  1. i liked the dog point of view. looking at life from that level is a different perspective so it keeps the viewer interested. you did a nice job of showing the size of the yard to the dog.

  2. I love how different this is from my piece even though we had similar topics. I like how you used the camera and some wide angles to give the viewer a feeling of being such a small animal in such a (seemingly) large space. By cutting those shots with the actual pup it made him seem even smaller! It was almost kind of sad seeing this little dog play by himself! I liked the choice of music as well. It seemed to fit the piece. What was it?

  3. I loved the opening shot. It seemed really gritty and old school, also was it a fisheye lens? either way it was a nice wide angle, the birdhouse reminded me of my memories in my grandparents backyard, I think that first shot really helped establish that.

  4. I liked that you captured all the non-human elements of the home. The wide shots really helped capture the scape of the house.

  5. For me, the best part was the way you seemed to film from high and low angles -- almost portraying how the backyard would be shot from the trees perspective and the dog's at the same time. Your close ups looked clean and the use of shallow depth of field really made the shots pop from the rest of the backyard. Though the dog was unexpected at the beginning, I love the shot of the dog alone with the tennis ball. A lot of emotion from a tiny little thing!

  6. i love the shots where the camera is extremely low to the ground like ists from the dog's point of view. also fleet foxes are awesome.

  7. I felt that the shot of the empty hammock was the best shot in this movie, because it established a sense of "emptiness" which added to the sense of size of the yard and made it seem even bigger when the dog came in. I also liked the extremely low shots, because I thought the detail of the grass was interesting.

  8. Nice feel of a 1st person view of everything. Like the bird house and hammock shot at the beginning. And nice crib too!....
